Summer Camp Registration is open

We will be sending out an email to those on our mailing list with camp information. If you'd like to be on the mailing list please send us an email and we'd be more than happy to add you.

You can register by printing out the form on this site and bringing it down to 716 King St. West. Between now and June 1 you can pay with a personal cheque but after June 1st we only except payments in CASH ONLY - The reason for this is mainly to do with NSF cheques and the desire to have the majority of banking done before camps start. Receipts will still be issued upon registration.

When dropping off a registration to 716 King St. West, remember that the doors there are always locked. There is a door bell and a rope that hangs out to ring the cow bell! Any questions concerning registration should be communicated with Carrie Whalen or Jonathan Morin via phone, Text (613-539-5774 & 613-893-5774) or email (yakcamps@mac.com) prior to dropping off forms.

Jr. Art Camp (Ages 4-7)

The Jr. Art Camp is a fantastic place for young people to come and explore a wide variety of creative mediums in an environment steeped in the joy of Fine Arts. Clay, pottery, ceramic painting, acrylic painting on canvas, water colors, sculpture, mixed media projects, printmaking, screening, craft projects, fabric painting, fantastic face painting, inflatables, 25 Plasma Cars for the gymnasium and of course our famous environmentally friendly multi-media projects which change every year ie: worm composters, Mason Bee Houses, community sharing boxes, cool garden projects, tile trays etc. We are currently inventing this year's project.

Hotdog day on Friday (All Beef or Tofu dogs) Pizza day on Wednesday. T-shirts given out on Monday. In the afternoons we will get outside and do lots of fun in the sun games.

There is an art show every Friday from 3:30-4:30 of all the kids' projects that they worked on all week. If your child is in half day art camp please discuss with your councillor whether or not you would like to return for the 330 art show or take your child's art work home at noon on Friday. We often have guest musicians, dancers, Petting Zoos and Ray's Reptile Zoo come and do performances for the children attending all YAK Camps.

This is our longest running camp. We have been doing the Jr. Art Camp for 21 summers now and many of the campers that came to these camps when they were young are now leading them with the help of C.I.T.'s who are also former Y.A.K. Campers. Also this summer we have three education graduates from McArthur College working for us that have degrees in the arts, music degree and fine arts degrees as well this summer Carrie Whalen will be be working full time at the St. Johns Anglican Church location

Carrie Whalen, the founder of Y.A.K. and a fine arts and fashion design graduate, plans the projects, directs, and oversees all of the camps at both spaces along with her husband Jonathan Morin.

Please join our facebook group 'Click here to get lots more information on your camps as we have an album in photos for each camp which will show you tons of photos from camps of previous years. Also on this facebook page we will be introducing you to this summers staff, C.I.T.'s, Co-op students etc. (basically all the pink shirts) You can message Carrie Whalen, the camp director or other staff directly from this facebook page to ask question about your upcoming session or email yakcamps@mac.com

Fairies and Unicorns Art Camp (Ages 4-8)

What did I see in the woods, to-day?
I saw a fairies' Gypsy-camp.
The tents were toadstools, brown and gray,
Among the bracken, soiled and damp.
I called on a cowslip 'mid the green,
And borrowed a bit of fairy gold,
And then I found the Gypsy-Queen,
And so I had my fortune told.
Ah, yes, she told me a secret true,
That wild-eyed Gypsy, brown and red!
But I may not tell it out to you,
For that would break the charm, she said.
And if you seek them by yourself
You will not find that strolling band;
They have pilfered the wild bees' hoarded pelf,
And flitted away to another land.

We have had so much fun the last few summers at FAIRY camp that we absolutely must do it again.

Come and join our magical enchanted fairy land where young fairies craft beautiful fairy outfits, paint ceramic fairies & unicorns, craft lovely fairy houses, create magical fairy gardens, make wands, floral crowns, have their faces painted, tell group fairy & unicorn stories, flutter through gardens in search of outdoor fairy homes, learn group fairy songs and dances and have a fairy fluttertastic time. A real fairy will also be fluttering into camp one day during the week. A fairy tea party is thrown on Friday afternoon for parents and children to attend. (3:30-4:30)

In the afternoons we will get outside and do lots of fun in the sun games, bouncing in our castles. Hotdog day on Friday (All Beef or Tofu dogs) Pizza day on Wednesday.

Arts & Drama & Puppetry Camp (Ages 4-8)

My daughters love to dress up and make believe to all their favorite stories.

I wanted to do a camp that celebrates children's love of make believe and story telling. A perfect camp for a child that enjoys art, stories, dramatic play, dress up, and lots of physical play. We will do arts and dramatic play based on the children's favorite fairytales and storybooks. Puppet plays will be performed each day for children based on some of our favorite story books and children will be encouraged to develop their own puppet plays. Creative arts projects based on fairytales will be enjoyed each morning.

An art show will be held on Friday at 330-4pm.

LEGO Robotics Camp (Ages 7+)

We are excited to introduce our new Mindstorms EV3 kits which offer all new possibilities for Robotics Fun! We also have roughly 20 of mindstorm robots just waiting to be build.

The combination of Robots and Lego is genius! During this week of camp kids will get to build several different robots that do all kinds of silly nutty things. Each day a different robot is constructed and children learn how to program Lego creations using computers. Upon completion they have their robots compete, play, and execute various challenging missions.

Lego Robotics is now a group for 7 years and up. We have decided to run one group of Lego robotics this year. We will assess each child and group them by ability.

Kiln fired Glass, Clay & Ceramics Camp (Ages 8+)

Last summers Kiln fired Glass camp was a huge hit and everyone created such amazing projects. We are excited to offer this camp again this summer as there are so many new cool glass & clay projects we would like to try out. Children will explore glass Jewelry, bowls, plates, pictures, etc. Glass fusing is simply layering pieces of decorative glass onto a glass base. After it's kiln-fired, the layers of glass become one and viola, you've made a glass plaque, bowl or vase! Also during this week long camp children will explore creative clay hand building, and ceramic painting.

The projects that the children did last year were awesome! We make clay creepers & mobs, paper-craft, pixelated-portrait painting, Minecraft inspired glass fused pendants, mob & player collages, ceramic painting, creating tools of the game, and more!

We do not play Minecraft during this camp session but children are welcome to show each other their 'Minecraft worlds' they have created in the game and share there world ip addresses so that they can visit each other in the game on their own time.
An art show will be held on the Friday of camp from 3:30-4:00 pm for parents and friends.

HST
As the Ontario Government does not consider summer camps to be child care we must charge HST on our camps.

Special Needs Children
It is important that you let us know if your child has special needs.
Children who can not function on their own for whatever reason must be accompanied by a helper/special needs worker, or parent.

Children with high needs behavior (ADD or ADHD, AUTISM etc) must be accompanied by a parent or worker for the duration of his or her camp session. It is not fair to our staff or to other campers if you send a high needs child to camp with no mention of their behavioural issues. This only ever ends badly.

Children with high needs behavior (ADD or ADHD, AUTISM etc) must be accompanied by a parent or worker for the duration of his or her camp session. It is not fair to our staff or to other campers if you send a high needs child to camp with no mention of their behavioral issues. This only ever ends badly.

High functioning Autistic/ADHD children are welcome at YAK without the accompaniment of a childcare worker or parent, but there must be good communication between parents and the camp director regarding your child and their circumstance prior to registration. We have lots of children at YAK camps with high functioning conditions; this works best when we are aware in advance of your child's particularities. Staff can prepare better for the session when they know how to best work with your child.

Behavior Issues
If your child has high needs behavior problems or behavior issues and you DO NOT notify us of this, we reserve the right to cancel your session with no refund.
If your child's behavior is very poor during the camp session we reserve the right to send him or her home and cancel their session with no refund.

By signing the application form you are giving permission for photos of your child to be used for camp advertising purposes (names are never attached to children) If you do not want photos of your child used you must attach a letter to your registration form stating so with a recent photo of your child attached so that we will be able to easily spot your child in our photos when we go to do our advertising.
We will be installing recording surveillance cameras at our camps this summer as an extra security measure for our campers and staff.
Not Nut Free
We are not a nut free camp. If your child has a nut allergy we can ask other parents to be careful not to send nut foods during your child's week at camp but this still does not guarantee a nut free environment.

Cancellation Policy
To cancel your camp session and get your money back minus $50. registration fee, you must notify us before June 21th. However after June 21st there are no refunds for any reason.
